...to Treatment Options: How it Works |
The Need for our Services
The universal nature of health care in Canada provides the basic level of physician and hospital services at the prevailing provincial guidelines. Supplemental coverage is available through corporate health plans or even individual plans. This generally provides payment for drugs, vision products, dentistry and upgraded hospital accommodation. Unfortunately, shrinking resources have resulted in limited early treatment intervention, limited co-ordinated patient management and longer waits for care.
Mission
It is Treatment Options' mission to provide a pro-active medical consulting and advocacy program which ensures the most advantageous use of the government health plan for those patients who are diagnosed with a serious illness or incur a serious accident.
Objectives
The objectives of Treatment Options address these issues of care and coverage through specific services:
Personal advocates (doctors, nurses, social workers) to facilitate the patient's decision-making and advocate for the patient before, during and after treatment;
Consultation with leading U.S. and Canadian medical tertiary care specialists specific to the client's illness;
Support staff, supplementary medical professionals and alternative medicine referrals, as necessary;
A fully researched Action Report, including scientific data onthe condition, the best treatments (risks and side effects), the best serviceproviders and Centres of Excellence in Canada and the U.S.A which specialize in these treatments;
TREATMENT OPTIONS is designed to provide independent analysis and recommendations from the top specialists in Canada and the U.S.A. when a patient has serious medical problems.
The medical advocacy and consulting service works as follows:
Upon the diagnosis of a serious medical condition, an advocacy (doctor and nurse) / medical research Team is set up on behalf of the client. The Team, working with the best specialists in Canada or the U.S.,
♦ reviews the client's diagnosis and initial recommended treatment, and
♦ provides direct communication with the medical experts; and
♦ provides a report outlining the specific condition,
♦ options for treatment and the resultant risks,
♦ the best course(s) of action, and
♦ the appropriate facilities.
If treatment is required in the United States, Treatment Options usually can arrange for discounts on the client's bills.
Treatment Options is offered as a stand-alone benefit to be bundled with existing health insurance (Critical Illness, Long Term Care and Emergency Out of Country Medical Insurance) for groups of 500 or more.
